As the North American geospatial industry continues to expand across new technology corridors, one of its flagship events is preparing for a strategic relocation.
Organizers have announced that Geo Week will move to Utah in 2027, aligning the event with one of the country’s fastest-growing technology ecosystems.
Geo Week, North America’s premier geospatial and mapping technology event, has announced that it will relocate from Denver, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah beginning in 2027. The move positions the event within one of the nation’s fastest-growing technology markets, supported by an established geospatial ecosystem and an active community of mapping professionals.
According to Lee Corkhill, Event Director for Geo Week, Salt Lake City offers a unique opportunity to expand industry partnerships while placing geospatial innovation in direct operational context. The city’s advanced GIS operations span water systems, utilities, transportation infrastructure, public lands, lidar acquisition, and open data initiatives, making it an ideal setting to demonstrate geospatial technology in real-world applications.
Salt Lake City and the surrounding region are home to thousands of geospatial professionals working across public agencies, utilities, and private firms. The metropolitan area ranks among the fastest-growing technology hubs in the United States and stands third among large U.S. metros for overall economic performance. The local technology sector accounts for approximately 8.5 percent of the workforce and contributes an estimated $13 billion in economic impact.
Utah’s broader geospatial ecosystem includes professional associations, user groups, and government programs that foster collaboration in advancing spatial science and technology. Municipal and county GIS operations manage water systems, utilities, stormwater, transportation networks, public lands, and lidar acquisition across the region, while statewide open data initiatives provide public access to extensive spatial datasets, offering practical examples of geospatial innovation in operation.
Higher education institutions across Utah contribute to workforce development through specialized geospatial programs that support a steady pipeline of skilled professionals entering the industry. Salt Lake City maintains one of North America’s highest concentrations of young professionals and consistently ranks nationally for growth in college-educated residents. University-affiliated research laboratories and regional professional associations further support applied geospatial research and industry collaboration, reinforcing Geo Week’s broader objectives of education, networking, and professional advancement.
Geo Week 2027 will take place February 23–25, 2027, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. The event will continue its mission of bringing together geospatial and mapping professionals to explore how data, maps, and advanced technologies support data-informed solutions to complex challenges. Salt Lake City’s geographic position at the intersection of alpine mountain environments, desert landscapes, and the Great Salt Lake provides a compelling backdrop for demonstrating applied geospatial technologies in diverse environmental contexts.
Geo Week is produced by Geo Week News and forms part of Diversified’s technology portfolio, which includes Commercial UAV Expo, Commercial UAV Forum Europe, Commercial UAV News, Geo Business (UK), and Digital Construction Week (UK).
