FOSS4G 2026, the world’s largest conference dedicated to Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G), is scheduled to take place from 30 August to 5 September 2026 in Hiroshima, Japan. The event will bring together developers, users, researchers and decision‑makers from the global geospatial community to explore the latest innovations in open‑source geospatial technologies and their role in addressing real‑world challenges.
Organised by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), FOSS4G is the premier global forum for open‑source geospatial software, data and standards. The 2026 edition emphasizes the theme “Bridging Geospatial Technology and Humanity,” highlighting how open‑source solutions can empower communities in areas such as disaster response, urban planning, environmental resilience, humanitarian applications and cultural preservation. Hiroshima — known as a City of Peace and Reconstruction — provides an inspiring backdrop to reflect on the humanitarian impact of geospatial technologies and international collaboration.
The week‑long programme will begin with hands‑on workshop days (30‑31 August) where participants can deepen technical skills with interactive sessions. The main conference (1‑3 September) will feature keynote speeches, expert panels, technical presentations and community discussions on cutting‑edge topics in open geospatial technology. The final days (4‑5 September) are dedicated to community events and code sprints, enabling collaboration, coding, and peer‑driven development activities across projects and applications.
FOSS4G 2026 will be hosted at the International Conference Center Hiroshima, with additional workshops held at the RCC Bunka Center and community activities located throughout central Hiroshima. Participants from around the world are invited to engage with a diverse programme that fosters innovation, open standards adoption, and the growth of an inclusive open‑source geospatial ecosystem.
